santorini digital

one of the most beautiful places on planet earth; the volcanic island of santorini, greece

One of my favorite places on Earth with unfortunately too many tourists spoiling the fun. But before and after the high season…

I have been traveling to the volcanic islands of Santorini three times so far and still it is a place to explore, for I have seen only parts and details. I am not a tourist over there. Just back- and jam packed with photographic gear I am sweating all the way up and down, lining it’s caldera all day long. First time there I made crappy shots only, except for a few and caught the photographic fever. That was before the digital era came upon us.

Now I roam the island digitally first and then back all over again for shooting my favorites with the analogue 6x7cm mid format Mamiya RZ67 and it’s superb lenses. These analogue ones you can find on the other post HERE. All I can say and write is written there, so you can read there about the why’s about the inspiration and see here a little digital selection.

What do you think of titles like “The Earth Beneath My Feet”? or “A Human Zip Confronts Nature with His Abstract Expression”, “Architecture in Thira Emerged in the Blue Hour”, “Door Waiting to be Opened”, “The Intrinsic White Meets With a Black Rectangle”, “Dome Cross and Lapis Lazuli [International Klein Blue]”? Do these titles tickle your imagination? If such titles do, then please click below and be surprised by colors, stairs, doors, the forces of nature and men’s [dis]harmony within it and with his struggle against it. How men integrates, imitates and opposes nature with his abstract linear thinking.

I have always loved photography, but if I would look back, much older, I can say: “This is the place where it all really started.”

So please enjoy my views upon the magical islands of Santorini, Greece.
