burned earth
a small reportage from the garzweiler surface mine in nord-rhein westfalen, germany
a process where landscape and villages are being dismantled for the mining of brown coal. highways are being displaced, inhabitants have to leave their villages and properties. within a not all to distant future these mines will be closed again and re-filled with earth, and subsequently restored to their original, agricultural, state.
